Touring the Dam

Image
Nevada's Hoover Dam (August 2016) When travelling to Vegas touring Hoover Dam and Lake Mead is a must.  Located in Boulder City, Nevada (30 miles from Las Vegas), lies a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River. Pictured above is the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Memorial Bridge which  protects the border between Arizona and Nevada. Hoover Dam Power Plant The power plant protects the dam by supplying hydroelectric power and flood control. Men Building the Dam Construction to build the dam started in 1933.  Prompted by the Great Depression thousands of men left their homes promised employment. Over 100 reported deaths were caused by falling objects and heat exhaustion (119 degrees Fahrenheit / 48 degrees Celsius).  All Aboard the Desert Princess The Desert Princess is a three-level paddle-wheeler that holds 275 passengers. Part 2 of my day trip to Boulder City was touring Lake Mead, the highest reservoir in the United States.

San Diego Harbor California (December 2016) Not a cloud in the sky. At Seaport Village capturing the beautiful reflection of downtown San Diego. This was my first time visiting Cali and I enjoyed every minute of it. I stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel (largest hotel on the waterfront). Top of the Hyatt My view. 40 stories above San Diego Bay lies a rooftop lounge and bar. Enjoyed some chocolate fondue with homemade marshmallow, marble cake, and strawberries.  Chocolate Fondue What could be better?
